4        SUNDAY                       EPIPLYLLUM SHOW & SALE               9AM - 4PM      
Sponsored by the South Bay Epiphyllum Society.  In Greek, Epiphyllum means 'upon the leaf', and epi's produce flowers on leaf-like stems.  There are very few flower shows more colorful than an Epiphyllum show.  Members of the Epiphyllum Society will be on hand to answer your questions. 


11     SUNDAY           PALOS VERDES SYMPHONIC BAND                 2PM TO 4PM 
                                            Mother's Day Concert
Performed by the P.V. Symphonic Band in the Frances Young Hall.  What a nice treat for mom!  Bring your mother and enjoy an afternoon at the garden.  Picnic benches are located outside the garden gates.   
 


17 & 18    SAT & SUN       GERANIUM SHOW & SALE                            9AM - 4PM  
Sponsored by the South Coast Geranium Society.  Originating in South Africa, true Geranium species are cold-hardy plants, unlike their hybridized cousins Pelargonium.

SUN       BONSAI SHOW                                              9AM - 4PM 
Sponsored by the South Coast Bonsai Association.  Bonsai is the are of dwarfing trees or plants and developing them into aesthetically appealing shapes by grooming, pruning and training them in containers according to prescribed techniques.  Come learn more about this ancient art.  

31              SAT & SUN      AMERICAN NEEDLEPOINT GUILD               9AM - 4PM 
Hosted by Needle Artists by the Sea chapter, this show of various stitched art work will be on display in the Frances Young Hall.  Entry divisions include professional, non-professional, master and youth.  Display categories will include needlepoint, petitpoint, counted thread, surface embroidery, beads, lace, clothing embellishing and mixed media.  This show is open to the public to display your stitched works.  The cost is $8 per piece entered.  Call Mary Fleming (310) 530-6690 to register.

14 & 15     SATURDAY & SUNDAY      FUCHSIA SHOW & SALE   10AM TO 4PM
28TH Annual Fuchsia Festival, sponsored by South Coast Fuchsia Society.  This year's featured fuchsias will be beautiful white-blossomed, pure and cool to creamy with hints of pink and lavender.  White fuchsia's are unusual and a perfect accent to your summer garden.  In addition ot whire there will be 4 inch pots, gallons and hanging baskets, standard trees and patio shrubs in shades pf purple, pink, lavender, red and orange.  If you look carefully you may alos find yellow and green blossoms!  Buy a plant, container and soil and we will repot your plant for free. 

21             SATURDAY      COSTA VERDE DISTRICT        NOON TO 4PM
                      "Our Garden Treasures"              HORTICULTURAL SHOW

                  FLOWER ARRANGING LECTURE AND DEMO
Come for a demonstration on how to properly arrange flowers to their best viewing advantage.  Gudy Kimmel, a member of Las Gabrielinas and Costa Verde Flower Clubs, and floral arrangement judge, will speak on the Club's goal of promoting horticulture in the community.  Prepare a floral arrangement to take home and enjoy.  Flowers and containers will be provided.  


29             SUNDAY                             GERANIUM LECTURE                1PM TO 3PM
Originating in South Africa, true Geranium species are cold-hardy plants, unlike their hybridized cousins.   Geraniums come in a great variations of leaf, flower, scent and growth habits.  Come to this lecture to learn more about this popular plant.

6        SUNDAY       WINDY RIDGE BLUEGRASS BAND         4:30PM - 7:30PM 
The Windy Ridge Bluegrass Band will perform on the Upper Meadow, playing contemporary and traditional bluegrass tunes.  Bring a picnic, blanket or beach chairs and relax on the Upper Meadow while listening to the band.
 
This is a Fundraiser, tickets are $15 at the door for members and non-members alike.

13       SUNDAY            CACTUS & SUCCULENT LECTURE           1PM - 4PM 
Hosted by the South Coast Cactus & Succulent Society, this lecture will feature John Trager, Curator of Desert Collections at the Huntington Botanical gardens and he will speak on 'Landscaping with Succulents'.  After that you will hear a brief presentation from SCBG Gardener, Pedra Furmall about the expansion of our Cactus & Succulent Garden.  Lecture will include a short trip to the cactus & Succulent Garden to view the expansion project. 

19 & 20          SAT. & SUN.         L.A. FERN SHOW                        9AM - 4PM
Sponsored by the Los Angeles International Fern Society, South Bay Workshop.  Growing in a wide variety of habitats, ferns have been with us for more than 300 million years.  Come and see the different varieties of ferns grown by society members.  
     
 

20      SUNDAY         P V SYMPHONIC BAND    Garden Opens for Picnicking   4:30PM
                                  'Pops and Picnic"              Concert starts 5:30pm
The Palos Verdes Band will be performing on the Upper Meadow.  Relax on the grass and enjoy a picnic dinner, while listening to the band.  This is a fundraiser for the Band and the Foundation.  Tickets are $5 at the door.  


23 - 27    SHAKESPEARE FESTIVAL LA        Garden Opens for Picnicking 6PM
                'THE TAMING OF THE SHREW'    Performance starts 8pm
19th Annual 'Bard in the Garden'.  This year's performance is The Taming of the Shrew.  This year, enjoy a new spin on The Taming of the Shrew and take a uniquely Los Angeles look at Shakespeare's classic comedy.  Bring a picnic and relax on the Upper Meadow prior to the performance.  To order tickets call (213) 975-9891 or visit www.BardInTheGarden.org

  Steve Roslonek of SteveSongs has been performing his unique brand of original songs for kids and their families.  His music has won numerous national awards.  Blending participatory songs, clever stories and great melodies you will find yourself on a musical journey.  Bring a picnic and enjoy the music on the Upper Meadow.

This is a fundraiser.  Tickets are $5 for children and $8 for adults in advance.  $8 for children and $10 for adults at the door.

16 & 17     DAHLIA SHOW & SALE           SATURDAY                   NOON - 4PM 
                                                                     SUNDAY                          9AM - 4PM
Sponsored by the South Coast Dahlia Society.  Dahlias originated in Central America and are native from Mexico to Costa Rica.  Plants were taken back to Europe by Spanish adventurers more than 200 years ago.  Dahlias are easy to cultivate and are beautiful.  The range of types, sizes and colors is spectacular.   Come to the show and see the many types of dahlias on display.

Parachute Express.  Known as on of the premiere entertainers of children between the ages of one and ten years old, Parachute Express blends music, and stage show into family entertainment.  This is Parachute Express' third return to Garden.

17                                 BEGONIA SHOW & SALE                               9AM - 4PM 
Sponsored by the Palos Verdes Branch - American Begonia Society.  Begonias are one of the great groups of cultivated ornamental plants.  Very many species have been introduced, and there are numberless hybrids and variations.  This is a very diverse group of plants, many of them are grown primarily for foliage, others for their showy blooms.   
A Volunteer, non-profit organization.  Founded 1961

Dedicated to Furthering Horticultural Research and Educational Opportunities
