The owl most commonly seen on the Peninsula, the Great Horned like most owls sleeps during the day, usually well-hidden high up in the trees, and comes out at night foraging for mammals like rabbits and skunks.  It's large, similar in size to Red-tailed Hawk, and bulky, with tufted ears that give its head a cat-like shape.
