If you haven't seen a Northern Mockingbird at the Garden, chances are you've heard one. Each individual has a repertoire of 150 to 300 phrases which may include mimicry of other bird species. It's very territorial, and will often be seen chasing other birds in defense of its area. It can also be seen dive-bombing and harrassing much larger raptors such as Red-tailed Hawks. The Mockingbird is pale gray overall, with white patches on wings and tail that are quite distinctive in flight.
