  • Planting My Own Vegetables, Where, When, ... and Why? - Spring 2013

    Gardening Class for Children in Grades K-3 (ages 5-8)

    $18 for members’ children / $20 for non-members’ children

    Additional children in same household: $16 for members’ children / $18 for non-members’ children

    Instructor: Diane Pollock, Landscape and Horticulture Teacher, Certified Master Gardener

    Where, when, and why should children plant their own veggie seeds. Children will have coloring sheets plus hands-on activities. Take-homes include coloring pages, a seasons color wheel, and biodegradable pots planted with their seeds (appropriate for the season). Parents will take home seasonal plant sheets plus plant care sheets for follow up with their child. Class is limited to 25 participants. This is not a drop off program and parental attendance is required.

  • Three Sisters Garden: Corn, Beans, and Squash for the Summer - Spring 2013

    Gardening Class for Children in Grades 4-7 (ages 9-13)

    $18 for members’ children / $20 for non-members’ children

    Additional children in same household: $16 for members’ children / $18 for non-members’ children

    $5 materials fee per child (payable to instructor)

    Instructor: Diane Pollock, Landscape and Horticulture Teacher, Certified Master Gardener 

    Students will learn the basics of planting plus the wisdom of planting with nature, as the Native Americans practiced. They will read stories from the Three Sisters Lore and understand the questions at the end of the reading. They will put together a seasonal planting wheel. Take home projects include the readings and wheel plus the planting projects: three biodegradable pots with their plantings of heirloom corn, beans, and squash. Parents will receive after-care sheets and a master planting chart for each season. Class is limited to 25 participants. This is not a drop off program and parental attendance is required.

Fun-filled days include Play Dough Stations, Drawing and Collage Stations, Manipulatives, Outdoor Studio Time, and more. From Frank Lloyd Wright to Van Gogh, to Andy Warhol to Monet, students will learn how to work with a variety of materials and take home a work of art each week. Imagination, creativity, and innovation are at the forefront of this great class. Come join the fun – a great way to enhance critical thinking, develop problem solving skills, and let that imagination soar! Class is limited to 16 participants.

    Join Faery Fauni and Faery Godmother Careen up close in an interactive walkabout in the enchanted gardens of South Coast Botanic Garden. The faeries will bring you stories of faery magic and flowers, with dancing, singing and fun. Starting at 9:30 a.m. and ending at noon.

    Groups and parties are welcome. Picnicking will be available on the lawn adjacent to the Amphitheater during the Event hours. Children are invited to come in costume. Fairy merchandise and face painting will be available for purchase.

    Call (310) 544-1948 for advance tickets. Please arrive at least 15 minutes prior to your tour time.
