Climate Reality: Separating Science Fact from Fiction

Classroom A

Speaker:  Joe Galliani, 2011 South Bay Business Environmental Coalition SEED Award winner for Environmental Education and Outreach, and environmental columnist for Patch Hermosa Beach and Patch Redondo Beach.

The earth’s climate continued to change for the worse in 2011 a year of unprecedented extreme weather events; record levels of greenhouse gases; and record high land, sea and air temperatures.  Levels of greenhouse gases are now higher than the worst case scenario outlined by the U.N.’s Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change just four years ago.  A 2010 survey in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences found that 97 percent of scientific experts agree that climate change is "very likely" caused mainly by human activity,” yet a persistent and powerful effort funded by the oil and coal industries have resulted in significant numbers of Americans doubting and disputing the scientific facts.

In his accessible and easy to understand presentation, Joe Galliani, will review the current state of our climate and its present and future consequences.
