    Join us for this lecture introducing the new, upcoming fine-art photography and camera courses.  Ms. Balcom will give a presentation highlighting concepts and provide a brief overview of good photo opportunities in the Garden.  Participants can bring one .jpg image on a flash drive (optional) for improvement suggestions by instructor!   • Summer Photo Walks & Critique in the Garden

    Capture the beauty of the Garden.  Relaxed walks with photo coaching and easy assignments are followed by classroom evaluation and PowerPoint instruction.  Class critique includes brief reminders on composition and lighting.  All skill levels, any camera (digital or film, automatic or adjustable).  Bring camera and manual to first class. 

    Five meetings:  Three classroom lectures and critique plus two day outings in the Garden.

  • Flavored Vinegar Workshop - NEW!

    Instructor:  Connie Vadheim, Adj. Professor of Biology, CSUDH

    In this hands-on workshop, participants will learn about the use of leaves, flowers and berries of popular Southern California native plants to enhance the flavor of cooking vinegars and make one-of-a-kind ingredients for the gourmet kitchen.

    The workshop will include a presentation on specific Southern California native plants, a focused garden walk, tasting of different flavored vinegars and actual demonstration of basic recipes. Each participant will prepare one bottle of flavored vinegar to take home.

    Class fee includes materials to make flavored vinegar.

  • Children's Art Workshop

    Due to popular demand, we are thrilled to bring back a children’s art program at the Garden!  Please join us in the Children’s Garden for some creative fun! 

    There will be four Art Friday’s this summer for children, ages 3 to 7, July 8, 22, August 5, 26.  They will learn about art, nature, and bring home a keepsake project. We welcome new instructor to the South Coast Botanic Garden, Jennifer MacKenzie - She loves art...was an art major...is currently a local art teacher...and loves to teach children about art!

    Classes are limited to 20 children.  Pre-register through the Foundation Office.  Only $12 per child/per class!

     

    About the Instructor: 

    Jennifer holds a Bachelor of Art from the University of New Hampshire.  She was a volunteer Art teacher at the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston.  She is currently teaching art to children at the Miraleste Early Learning Academy and the Valmonte Early Learning Academy.
