Chicken Mushroom

Also called the Sulfur Shelf, this mushroom can grow to overlapping clusters of 5 to 50 plus or in rosettes 10-30 inches wide.  It occurs on stumps, trunks, and logs of a variety of trees incuding Carob, Eucalyptus and conifers.  Spores are released along the lower surface of the "shelf" and carried off by wind currents.  Photo by Laurel Woodley.
