Crab Spider

Scientific Name:
Misumenoides formosipes
Location

Garden Location:
Greenhouse Area

Crab spiders may be white or yellow to match the flower color that they are hiding on while waiting for the pollinator to arrive.  The prey item (fly or bee) is quickly grabbed with the crab-like front legs and then bitten with the two fangs.  The spider may take most of the day to feed on its prey.  Photos by Laurel Woodley
