Honey Bee

Scientific Name: 
Apis mellifera

The Honey Bee is the primary pollinator of flowers in the garden.  This bee is an Old World insect which is well adapted to a Mediterranean climate and essential to the economic production of the worlds' honey.  This is a social insect forming a hive with a queen, workers and drone bees.  Photos by Laurel Woodley
