Red-eared Slider Turtle

This pond turtle is not native to California but has adapted well to our climate.  This is a completely aquatic turtle that seldom ventures far on land and may be seen basking along the banks or on rocks and logs.  It feeds on aquatic plants, crayfish, snails, tadpoles and fish.  Photos by Laurel Woodley
