Serpent Cactus

Located in the extension to the Cactus Garden is a small columnar cactus flowering for the first time at the South Coast Botanic Garden.  This is a spectacular species of the genus Peniocereus as the flowers are large and stand upright from the plant stem.  Flowers open during the evening hours and it produces a sweet scent lasting into the day.  Photos by Laurel Woodley
