Parent & Me: Bug Expedition!

Calling all junior entomologists to discover and learn about the bugs in the garden! You will create your own identification guide that you can use at South Coast Botanic Garden and even your own backyard! Each child will use a magnifying glass, notebook, pencil and crayons to record their findings (all of which are provided). New Year, New Me: Nature Journaling and Meditation Class.

Start the year with a clear mind. Join our team in a therapeutic nature journaling and meditation session that will allow you to reflect on your relationship with yourself and with the natural world. Out With the Old and In With the New: Sustainable Paper Bead Making

2 – 3:30 p.m. Saturday, January 13

Looking for something to do with last year’s calendar? Want to commemorate that special day or month in 2023? Look no further than this unique and inspiring workshop that combines art and sustainability. In this class, we will explore the art of bead making, using discarded materials and embrace the concept of “upcycling.” We will learn how to transform recycled paper (your calendars) into colorful beads, and use those to create simple jewelry. No prior experience is necessary for this workshop. Discover the joy of repurposing materials, unleash your creativity and leave with a unique, handmade piece to wear or display for years to come. **Recommended for ages 12 & up. Hummingbird Flights: Make You Own Hummingbird Feeders Using Recycled Wine Bottles

Get your garden humming with activity by creating the perfect visiting spot for pollinators. Bring some friends to make your own hummingbird feeder out of recycled wine bottles and learn everything you need to know about maintenance and plant pairings to ensure plenty of visits from this favorite garden visitor. **Recommended for ages 12 and up! GYM: Goats, Yoga and Matcha

10 – 11:30 a.m. and 12 – 1:30 p.m. Saturday, January 20

Hit the G.Y.M. this New Year at the Garden – goats, yoga & matcha! Take part in this fitness craze and practice your flow in the presence of live goats followed by matcha. Bring your mat, camera and good humor for an outdoor yoga practice you won’t soon forget, held in a fenced-in area with four furry farm companions. Your purchase for goat yoga includes a 60-minute yoga session followed by a delicious cup of hot matcha, and admission to the Garden all day. No experience required. Space is limited, advanced registration required. Participants must be at least 10 years old, participants under 16 must be accompanied by a ticketed adult. Blooms and Beauty: Flower Crown Making Class 

2 – 3:30 p.m. Saturday, January 27

Join us for a hands-on workshop where we will create exquisite flower crowns using fresh plant material. Set amidst the colorful surroundings of the Garden, this class offers a unique opportunity to immerse yourself in nature while learning the art of flower crown making. Guided by skilled instructors, you will learn the techniques of selecting, preparing and arranging fresh materials to craft your own stunning flower crown. As you weave together petals, leaves and delicate blooms, you will discover the therapeutic qualities of working with nature’s vibrant palette and engage in conversations about the significance of flowers in various cultures and the symbolism associated with different blooms.
