Yellow Bird of Paradise

The Yellow or Desert Bird of Paradise is a fast growing shrub or small tree growing to 10 feet.  It is semi-evergreen with leaf loss during the cooler winter months and does best in the full sun.  It prefers well drained soil and is very drought hardy.  The flowers are large and fragrant with showy yellow petals and orange-red stamens.  Photos by Laurel Woodley
