| Volunteering in the Garden |
|
| Volunteering might seem like dying art, but here at the South Coast Botanic Garden, it's going strong. Last year, over 130 volunteers donated 17,527 hours of their time to the Garden. That is truly awe-inspiring!
With only a few people actually employed by the Foundation, volunteers make up the greater part of our workforce. They staff in the Gift Shop, make crafts to sell in the Gift Shop and tend the Garden.
Volunteers contribute their time and talents to maintain the Garden in the following capacities:
Gift Shop: Offers books, gifts, cards, and gardening items. Open 10am to 4pm daily.
Craft Workshop: Meets every Wednesday morning. Handmade items are created by crafty volunteers and are available for sale in our Gift Shop.
Propagation Workshop: Meets Monday and Thursday mornings. Raise unusual plants for sale at our annual Spring and Fall Plant Sales. Flower Garden: Ever changing seasonal color. Tended to by volunteers. Meets Tuesday and Thursday mornings.
Back-40 Workers: Propagate chrysanthemums for our annual Chrysanthemum sale. Also raise cliva and orchids. Meets Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings.
Docents: Tour school groups, seniors, and other groups. Teach about the Garden and it's flora and fauna.
We are always happy to have new volunteers join us. Working in a garden is stress-reducing therapy. If you are interested, please call the Foundation Office at (310) 544-1948 for more information. (And remember, we are very flexible and can work with the hours you are able to volunteer.) |
